This particular bed is available at the moment. UK£1550 to include a box base but not a mattress. 6’ wide x 6’6” long We call this the Simple Litoche, because it really is just that. We follow the style, tradition and quality of our antique beds but we keep the lines straight and use little adornment to achieve a crisp, minimalist look. This gives them a modern edge that fits well into contemporary bedrooms.

Unlike most modern Beds our custom made beds are very substantial. For example, this one is 6’ wide, 4’10” tall at centre and 5’ 6” to top of side ‘Finials’. This is why we have chosen this particular style of bed from Provence. The low end means that it is not too overpowering.

We attach the head and foot end with steel rails that we have specially made for the purpose. The box base sits neatly on this, with the mattress on top. We have the box base made in two halves to make it easy to handle.

When we paint a bed we start from the beginning. We use different shades to get the gentle colours that we see in old French furniture. This means that no headboard or bed is the same as another. We then use beeswax to give a finish and a patina that looks as if it has been around for many years. All our beds are made with care; they are a one-off.

An example of a Finial. We have a number of different finials that we have had turned from originals which we have had on our antique beds over the years. We choose them when the bed is finished, as each bed has a different ‘personality’ and I think the finials do finish it off.
