Flame mahogany Lit en Bateau
Circa 1830

The lovely simple lines of a romantic, traditional mahogany Lit en Bateau or Sleigh Bed. They are becoming very hard indeed to find, well, good quality ones anyway.

We buy any good examples we see, which I am afraid is not very many, and we in fact reject many more than we buy.

As you can see there is a fading on the side panel in this Lit en Bateau where it was possibly stored in the light. We will be working on it to restore it to its original colour.

Beds from this period always have one decorative side and the other side is completely plain, as the bed would have been placed sideways along the wall.

Dimensions: Widest outside 4’3. Longest outside 6’6. Height 3’7. Inside measurements 4’x 6’,
It will make a very generous single bed or it will do at a pinch for 2 people for cosy overnighting. (I know because we use a bed of this size for the occasional guests!)
