Price to include an upholstered base ready for a mattress.
This bed has age, rarity, beauty, simplicity and elegance.
We have not had something as old as this for quite some time. One
of the nicest things for us is that we never know what we will find
on our expeditions. We found this bed hidden away, first of all noticing
the feet, which are very much in keeping with the Empire style. When
we managed to unearth the complete bed we were delighted with the
proportions and the colour. It is a lighter than usual Flame Mahogany.
I think one of the telling features of the Empire Period is the warmer,
lighter wood. They were inclined to descend into slightly darker nearly
gloomy shades during the later reign of Napoleon III. This was in
its day a French double bed.
The bed is in very good condition for its years; we show in one image
here (below), a very neat little mend like a darn in a sock, done
many years ago. This is lovely, it is what buying antique is all about.
Dimensions: Widest outside 4’2. Longest outside 6’7. Height
3’8 (Inside measurements 3’10 x 6’2) It will make
a very generous single bed or it will do at a pinch for 2 people for
cosy overnighting. (I know because we have one!)
