Louis XV simple walnut bed
UK£975
Circa 1890
Price to include a new upholstered base ready for a mattress.
One often hears the words ‘French Country’ bandied
about. We find real, genuine French country furniture difficult
to find because it will, for the most part, have been quite
simple, locally made and perhaps not highly thought of; sadly.
Therefore most of this nice simple furniture will have been
abandoned.
So it was with delight that we found this bed. It was covered
in layers of dust, but even so the lovely walnut wood figuring
showed through.
Look at the way the wood figuring on the headboard goes in the
opposite direction to the figuring on the footboard. It’s
lovely!
The crest is simply carved, in keeping with the rest of the
bed. It does not have the deep cuts and curlicues of the fussier
Louis XV beds.
Like most of our antique beds it is not a full 5’ wide
although the image we have taken is with a 5’ wide base
and mattress.
Most of our customers say that, as the beds are interesting
and decorative a small ‘overhang’ is not a problem.
Therefore this bed can take either a 4’6” or 5’(with
overhang) wide, base and mattress.
It measures 57” at the widest point.
62” at highest point on the headboard.
36” to highest point on footboard.
