| Ref1361 Louis XV style Bedroom set
UK£2500 Circa 1900
The decorative, curvy style of Louis XV is always a favourite,
it seems to be what many people think of as the 'French' style.
It is wonderfully frivolous.
The set is made from walnut. The armoire has shelves, it is
not deep enough to hang clothes. This is normal during the period
that we deal with, mainly 1870 to 1900, the French used armoires
for folded items, not hanging.
The armoire and bed belong together. We have added the bedside
cabinet as it is in the same style and goes well with the other
pieces. It has a rose coloured marble top. It is interesting
that in France it is usual to have just one bedside cabinet
(or chevet, as it is called in France) whereas in this part
of the world we are used to two. Occasionally, very occasionally,
we come across a pair. However it is a well known style and
we are usually able to find a second near match.
